Professional Organizations:

The American Nurses Association (ANA) represents all registered nurses in the United Sates and promotes the profession of nursing by setting professional standards, promoting safe working environments, advocating on behalf of nurses around the country, and advancing health care policy reform. It also engages in philanthropy through the American Nurses Foundation (ANF).

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) works to support education, research, and practice in the field of nursing. The AACN also administers NursingCAS, the common application system for many nursing programs.

Other professional organizations include: the Asian American/Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA), the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), the National Alaska Native American Indian nurses Association (NANAINA), the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), and the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA).
