Research Opportunities

Getting involved in research is a great way to develop skills and experiences that health profession programs value. It also provides opportunities to cultivate relationships with faculty who can serve as letter writers when you apply. Most research opportunities are set up independently by students.  Below are some resources for getting started. Once you are ready to contact a researcher, use our e-mail template to initiate the conversation.

WISCIENCE

WISCIENCE (Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement) has written a short guide on undergraduate research, including how to get started in paid, volunteer, and course-related research.

Wisconsin Discovery Portal

The Discovery Portal is a database of campus researchers and their research projects.  Search by your area of interest.

UW Student Jobcenter

The Student Job Center often contains postings for paid positions working in an on-campus laboratory.

Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS)

URS is a program that connects any freshman or sophomore with the opportunity to do research for academic credit with faculty on campus in a variety of disciplines. Application required.

Office of the Provost

The Provost's office has compiled a list of university fellowship programs that support undergraduate research.

College and Departmental Resources

Both CALS and L&S offer resources for undergraduates interested in research and provide opportunities for research in their honors programs. In addition, many departments offer research opportunities that can be found on their individual websites.
