First-Year Advising
Welcome to UW-Madison! We advise Badgers from your first day on campus, with specialized support for first-year students. Everyone’s path to a healthcare career looks different. Alongside your academic advisor and other important resources, CPHA is here to support you along the way!
During your first year, it’s most important to focus on adjusting to college, finding community, and exploring your interests. Establish a strong foundation and then begin to narrow in on your interests and goals.
Follow our social media and newsletter to learn about pre-health news and opportunities. Or, write to our questions box at questions@prehealth.wisc.edu! Our questions inbox is monitored Monday through Friday during central time business hours. We respond to questions within 24-48 hours (Mon-Fri). You’ve got this and we’re here for you!

Connect with us
Take advantage of our resources created especially for first-year students!
Pre-Health 101
Our most important advising resource for first-year students is Pre-Health 101, our online orientation on Canvas. It provides an overview of pre-health classes, activities, application timelines, and more.
First-Year Fridays
We hold drop-in advising hours exclusively for first year students every Friday during the fall and spring semesters from 9a.m. to noon.
For the latest schedule updates and to sign up, please refer to our CPHA Events Calendar!
Planning Sessions
Every semester, we offer presentations on planning pre-health courses and activities. Planning Sessions for First-Year Students are a great opportunity for first-year students to begin developing a personal four (or more) year plan.
